Brett was honored to speak at a national conference on the topic of the opioid crisis and its impact on newborn babies. Babies are being born addicted to and in withdrawal from these dangerous drugs and are experiencing serious neonatal health problems (diagnosed as Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome -NAS) and possibly life-long side effects, not to mention massive current and (possibly) future medical costs. Sadly, Kentucky is one of the states with the highest rates of babies born addicted to opioids. In some counties in Kentucky, nearly 14% of newborns are born addicted or in withdrawal.
